And he should acquire knowledge in stages.

Allah says, “And it is the Qur’an which we have divided (into parts), in order that you might recite it to men at intervals. And we have revealed it by stages.” (17:106)

Sheikh Bakr also states:

The ideal in seeking knowledge is that one who learns from instructions of teachers. Knowledge should be acquired from the mouths of men, not from scrolls or books. The first way constitutes building a connection through one who speaks, and this is the teacher. The second way is through the book, which is lifeless, so how can it give you a connection?

It has been said, “Anyone who enters knowledge alone shall depart alone.” This means that anyone who who begins to seeking knowledge without a teacher shall depart from it without knowledge. Knowledge is a craft, and every craft requires a craftsman. Therefore, it is necessary to learn it from an expert teacher.

As-Safadi said:

For this reason, the scholars say, “Do not take knowledge from a Suhufi, nor from a Mushafi,” meaning: do not read the Qur’an to someone who only read from a mushaf, nor Ahaadeeth or anything else to someone who acquired knowledge of that from Suhuf (scrolls).

Al-Awza’i used to say, “This knowledge was noble, men would acquire it from one another. However, when it entered the books, those who were not qualified for it entered it.”

The one who studies the life of Imam Muslim will find that he had many teachers to who he travelled in order to learn from them. Adh-Dhahabi arranged them alphabetically and they reached two hundred and twenty teachers who he narrated from in his Sahih.

Extracted from The Biography of Imam Muslim bin Al-Hajjaj by from todays khutbahAlhamdulillah wasalatu wasalaam 'ala muhammad wa 'ala alihi wa sahbih.

Todays sermon as we would hope like the sermons in most of the muslim world was influenced by the current events in our heartland, close to the third holiest place masjid al aqsa, these events alhamdulillah have started to wake the sleeping ummah inshaallah for the better, may Allah guide us all back to the deen and forgive all our sins and give us the best success.

The khateebs main points included:

situation in gaza is another episode in the struggle between islam and kufr

khateeb used the examples from the quran to see why the oppressors are so cruel as in surat buruj verses 7&8 "And they witnessed what they were doing against the believers (i.e. burning them) , They had nothing against them, except that they believed in Allah, the All-Mighty, Worthy of all Praise!" and surat al-maidah part of verse 82 "Verily, you will find the strongest among men in enmity to the believers (Muslims) are the Jews and those who are polytheists..."

the issue of particularly targetting HAMAS was because they proved to be able to govern its people and give inspiration of future islamic states in the muslim lands, but their destiny in the eyes of the disbelievers was to destroy them like the islamic movements in algeria, somalia, afghanistan, chechnya and others

the whole situation didn't come overnight, for decades their plots were being formed including destruction of the khilafah, deals with the british, infiltrating political and media circles and silencing opposing ideas.

as it didnt happen overnight, it will not finish over night, the solution has to start with the muslims returning tpo their deen and calling others to it.

and the end will be with the army of the believers with Eisa (Jesus) peace be upon him, fighting the dajjal (false messiah) army.

Abu camp conclusionAlhamdulillah wa salat wa salaam 'ala rasulallah

Alhamdulillah the camp went well, victorian brothers all arrived safely home by this morning and some who left early arrived sunday, may Allah reward the brothers who organised the event and the masheikh who came to benefit us with their knowledge.

There was many activities and state of origin competitions including soccer, water polo and volleyball, we also had rowboating, bushwalking and islamic lectures.

On a saddening note, the zionist aggression on gaza escalated and we had a phone link with a doctor in one of gazas hospitals, he described an alarming and tragic situation in general and spoke of the overwhelmed hospitals and lack of medical supplies and the suffering of the people.

From the day we arrived almost every salat the imam would make qunoot asking Allah to aid the muslims in gaza and around the world.

May Allah guide the ummah back to the deen and may He make the oppressors suffer in this life and the next.Abu Thaabithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09937789441978082401noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3590800590226014122.post-50730150794646237062008-12-28T15:21:00.000+11:002008-12-28T16:09:28.917+11:00supplicate for the ummah and the people of gaza in particularwith the news of large scale attacks against gaza, ongoing threats and blockades by the zionist occupation, many fresh images of the unnecessary destruction of buildings and of the suffering and abuse of the population, i bring a reminder.

do not sit back and say 'what can i do?' you can do something, are you a muslim? then at the very least you have to hate the suffering and oppression of your fellow muslims in your heart, and by your tongue you have to make duaa, supplicate to Allah to ease their suffering and hasten their mourning and remove the oppressors from our land, and supplicate that Allah unites the ummah again so we are not so weak to be abused and humiliated as we are now.

the following is a relevant excerpt from islamQA fatwa #7837 ( How can we support our brothers who are in need or who have suffered disasters?)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The relationship of the believer towards the people of faith is like that of the head to the body. The believer feels the pain of the people of faith just as the body feels the pain of the head.” (Narrated by Imaam Ahmad).
Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) neatly summed up the ways in which a believer can support his fellow-believer. He said:There are different ways of supporting a fellow believer: with one’s wealth, with one’s position of

authority or power, by means of physical service, by offering sincere advice and guidance, by making supplication (du’aa’) and asking for forgiveness for them, and by feeling their pain. The level of one’s support will be affected by the level of one's faith. The weaker a person's faith, the weaker his support will be; the stronger the faith, the stronger the support. The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was the greatest of all people in his support for his companions, so the more closely his followers follow him, the greater will be their support for their fellow-believers. As most of us know christmas is not part of christianity and certainly not part of islam, rather it is a pagan festival modified by the christian movement in order to ease the pagans into christianity, there is many researches, by non muslims, about this issue so i don't need to go into details here.

In the second part the khateeb, may Allah bless him, mentioned firstly about the ruling of celebrating and congratulating non muslims on their festival days and then mentioned other innovated acts practiced these days.
The khateeb quoted several scholars including imam ibnul qayyim who said: "Congratulating the disbelievers on the rituals that belong only to them is forbidden by consensus(ijma'), as is congratulating them on their festivals and fasts by saying ‘A happy festival to you’ or ‘May you enjoy your festival,’ and so on. If the one who says this has been saved from disbelief, it is still forbidden. It is like congratulating someone for prostrating to the cross, or even worse than that. It is as great a sin as congratulating someone for drinking wine, or murdering someone, or having illicit sexual relations (outside marriage), and so on. Many of those who have no respect for their religion fall into this error; they do not realize the offensiveness of their actions. Whoever congratulates a person for his disobedience or bid’ah or kufr exposes himself to the wrath and anger of Allaah."

many more similar statements were made by scholars to the same effect, for more detail on these rulings you can visit sheikh saleh al-munajids website with the following links:
http://www.islamqa.com/en/ref/947
http://www.islamqa.com/en/cat/148/ref/islamqa/1130
http://www.islamqa.com/en/cat/148/ref/islamqa/11427

As for other innovated acts these include birthdays and saints feast days, the prophet SAWS instructed us on two yearly festivals, eid al fitr and eid al adha, and the weekly (lesser) eid which is jumaah (friday), and he SAWS never celebrated a persons birthday and in fact warned us in authentic narrations to not exaggerate his status as the christians did with prophet jesus peace be upon him, such innovated festivals are useless and forbidden whether it has a good intention or not as the prophet SAWS said said: “Whoever does something that is a not part of this matter of ours (Islam) will have it rejected”.

So the khutbah was alhamdulillah a timely reminder about these issues which certainly we see a lot of in the ummah and we ask Allah, Al Hadiy, to guide the ummah back to the straight way, reestablish the khilafat and assist those who are striving for that in every vocation.

Subhanaka rabbana wa bihamdika ashhadu anlaa ilaha illa allah astaghfiruka wa atoobu ilayka.Abu Thaabithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09937789441978082401noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3590800590226014122.post-80067217942228765922008-12-22T10:58:00.000+11:002008-12-25T12:35:46.394+11:00Paintball aftermathAlhamdulillah our first paintball experience went well today, with 24 participating brothers making two teams, i think everyone was exhausted by the time we left and everyone has at least one bruise they can show off to their families, i have heaps including 4 on my head but as the supervisor said 'this is an extreme sport', so i say a few bruises afterward doesn't spoil the great fun that one has painting your opponents orange.

thankyou to the organising brothers jazahumallahu khayran, and thankyou to the venue staff, who provided a safe and fun experience for us.Abu Thaabithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09937789441978082401noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3590800590226014122.post-92219850451450071752008-12-18T23:47:00.000+11:002008-12-19T08:01:06.108+11:00Mind Body Spirit Festival November 2008Here is glimpse of our work at the mind body Spirit festival this past november, may Allah azza wa jal greatly reward those who participated and sponsored our presence at the event.

Video is 10mb

Abu Thaabithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09937789441978082401noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3590800590226014122.post-6816212553233193332008-12-14T23:44:00.000+11:002008-12-16T22:30:20.823+11:00upcoming ASWJ camp 2009for melbourne bookings, contact brother tamer, email us for his number or call into the centre.

click on poster image to view:

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; It is the hidden Shirk; A person stands to pray, and he beautifies his prayer because he seeas the people looking at him."

"O People! Fear this Shirk (meaning riyaa), for it is more inconspicous than the crawling of an ant."

“The first of people against whom judgment will be pronounced on the Day of Resurrection will be a man who died a martyr. Then he will be ordered to be dragged along on his face until he is cast into Hell-fire. [Another] will be a man who has studied [religious] knowledge and has taught it and who used to recite the Qur’an. He will be brought and Allah will make known to him His favours and he will recognize them.
